A Photographic History of Oregon State University

Academics at OSU

A major step forward in Oregon State’s ability to provide and “promote the liberal and practical education” called for in the 1862 Morrill Act was the 1959 establishment of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, which was able to grant degrees in each of those divisions. The creation of this school was a key factor in Oregon State’s achievement of university designation in March 1961.
